Club Plate Co.: club permits explained
Victoria's Club Permit Scheme lets you register a classic vehicle for a fraction of the cost, if an approved club endorses you. Here is how it works and why we built a club that does only that.
If you own a vehicle that is 25 years or older in Victoria, you can register it under the Club Permit Scheme instead of full registration. You pay for a set number of days on the road each year, and you pay a lot less. The catch is in the paperwork: VicRoads will only issue or renew a club permit if an approved club endorses the application.
For decades that has meant joining a traditional car club. Which is fine if you want the meetings, the committees and the event rosters. It is less fine if you just want your car on the road.
The part that has nothing to do with eligibility
Many clubs ask new members to serve a qualifying period, attend a minimum number of meetings or volunteer at events before they will sign an endorsement. None of that has anything to do with whether a vehicle is eligible under the scheme. That is the observation Sam and I started Club Plate Co. on.
How Club Plate Co. works
Club Plate Co. is a VicRoads-approved club, endorsing since 18 May 2026, whose sole purpose is endorsing club permit applications and renewals. Everything happens online.
- Membership costs a flat fee per year with no joining fee and nothing extra at renewal.
- Your vehicle is checked against the VicRoads rules before you pay, so you find out about any VASS requirements up front.
- Endorsements cover new permits, renewals and transfers from another club.
- Cars, motorcycles, four-wheel drives and utes, trucks, trailers, motorhomes, modified vehicles and interstate imports are all covered.
No meetings. No rosters. No waitlist.
What it says about how we build
Club Plate Co. is small, deliberately. It does one job, charges one price and tells members straight when their car will not qualify. That candour is the Rodford way of working, and it is why the club sits in the group alongside businesses that look nothing like it.
